The Beginning

Wow.  Where do I begin? I'm sitting on a plane going to London with only and hour and a half left and can’t believe this is real.  I’ve had plenty of time to soak in the major life changes that have happened in the last three weeks: getting engaged, married, and moving to Switzerland within a month.  Sounds crazy right?  I wanted to make this blog so those we love can know our story and stay updated on our adventures to come.  Hopefully this first entry fills in a lot of gaps.

It’s hard to give proper credit and emotion to the last two years without making another entry but I have such a love and gratitude for what happened so I’ll do a short recap.  My husband, Matt Phillips, moved home to Michigan at the beginning of this year hoping to find a job on the East Coast after having no real luck in Los Angeles.  We were both being tested spiritually and emotionally at this time and we prayed more than we imagined we could.  He worked extremely hard to network and chased any job opportunity he could but nothing was panning out.   We got to the point where the opportunities seemed to have run out and we were losing hope.  When we literally gave up and gave it to God was when everything happened.  A major international firm needed a fluent German speaker and asked Matt to interview in Chicago for the position.  They offered him the position on the spot so he thought we would have to move to Chicago but at the end of the interview they ask him to work in Downtown Los Angeles (which is where we normally reside) and to live in Switzerland for three months!

Through this trial we learned how powerful faith is and how much God wants us to have the absolute best.  Matt served his mission in Berlin, Germany (for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) where he came to love the people and became fluent in the language.  I wish you could see how much he lights up when he speaks German.  He'd always talk to me about missing Europe and wanting to live there again so you can imagine the excitement we felt knowing his job would involve using German in Switzerland no less.  Besides, it’s been a long time dream of mine to travel to Europe.  How wonderful is Heavenly Father?! He knows each of us so perfectly and wants to bless us not only with our basic needs but our desires too if we but come to Him.

After this blessing we knew we wanted to get married but the only thing is...Switzerland. Three months. What do we do?  When all was said and done we literally had three weeks to get engaged, move, and plan a wedding.  So Matt proposed (at Griffith Park which was perfect and romantic) then flew off the Switzerland while I moved our stuff into storage and planned our wedding.  He came back a couple days before the wedding and off we went.

We feel so very blessed.  We couldn’t have made the wedding or move possible without the help of our family and friends.  So thank you!  Thank you for making us feel such love and support.  We love you!  We’re grateful for the blessings that came after diligently praying, fasting, and acting in faith.  Know that whatever trial you're going through can be overcome and your life blessed.  Keep acting in faith and know Heavenly Father wants nothing more than to bless us when we're ready.  Sometimes He needs us to learn a lesson or grow a certain amount before letting us move forward.  Even if certain blessings don't come He makes all work out for our good.

My husband came with a lot of nephews!
We're so excited for our adventure ahead as Mr. And Mrs. Phillips and can't wait to keep you posted on our journey.  We wouldn't be on this plane, as newlyweds, without many of you so thank you.  I hear jet lag is the real deal so wish me luck!
