Spending a weekend in Lake Como was heaven. We were tucked away in our own, isolated part of the world with no pressures or deadlines. Matt and I stayed at the Grand Hotel Menaggio where we rested on lounge chairs, swam in the pool (right next to the lake), and read books. After the rush from our wedding to moving, our souls needed a slower pace and Lake Como was peaceful, beautiful, and relaxing. I wish we could've had a longer stay.
One great story from our visit happened on the way out and is about an elderly woman and a nun (see them pictured on the right).
Sounds like a great set up for a joke right? When Matt and I were waiting for our bus back to Lugano (a neighboring lake town where our final train was) the two women were walking down the road (arm in arm) chatting, in Italian, to one another and eventually sat down next to us on the bench. They began speaking to us but we obviously couldn't understand. The funny part is there was a young German girl on the bench too who understood Italian but couldn't speak English. She ended up translating the Italian into German to Matt who then translated into English for me. The two women continued to speak to us, passionately, in Italian even though they knew the girl was translating for us. They were so warm towards us and when our bus arrived they blew kisses to us and sent us on our way. Boy did I love life so much more in this moment. We certainly will never forget this experience.
